Ingredients

  • 2 cups navy beans, soaked overnight
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
  3. In a large pot, combine beans, water, and diced onion.
  4. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  6. Stir the mixture into the pot with the beans.
  7. Transfer everything to a baking dish.
  8. Bake uncovered for 1.5 to 2 hours, checking occasionally and adding water if needed.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • For a smoky flavor, add bacon or smoked paprika.
