Description
A flavorful alternative to Bush’s baked beans.
Ingredients

- 2 cups navy beans, soaked overnight
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 onion, diced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 teaspoons mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
- In a large pot, combine beans, water, and diced onion.
- Bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Stir the mixture into the pot with the beans.
- Transfer everything to a baking dish.
- Bake uncovered for 1.5 to 2 hours, checking occasionally and adding water if needed.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
- For a smoky flavor, add bacon or smoked paprika.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
